Gateway Learning Community

Gateway Diversity Statement
The Gateway Learning Community is dedicated to the lifelong success of all students who can benefit from and contribute to Syracuse University, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, socioeconomic status, age, ability, sexual orientation and/or religious background. To this end, we have strategically designed programs and services that precipitate a mutually respectful learning environment where our students and alumni develop to their full potential and are encouraged to serve the global community.
Gateway Learning Community
Through the integration of academic, social and residential life, the Gateway Learning Community is designed to prepare high-achieving scholars for:
- Post-baccalaureate education;
- Global citizenship; and
- Lifelong achievement.
Our vision is to build a community where residents challenge and support one another as they prepare for their transition to life after Syracuse University. Residents are required to attend a weekly seminar that engages them in substantive dialogue on issues of global importance and local relevance related to social capital and civic engagement, preparing them for the global perspective needed to succeed in graduate and professional school. Gateway LC residents will be expected to review a variety of provided resources to further challenge and enrich their learning experience. Throughout the year, residents participate in activities such as GRE/MCAT/GMAT/LSAT test preparation, job search strategies, budgeting for graduate education, graduate/professional school tours and a number of networking dinners with influential staff, faculty, deans, graduate students and alumni. Learning community staff also assist residents with developing short and long term goals relative to future academic and professional success.
