Practicing Law: Beyond the Classroom and Into a Law Firm
When choosing a site for a legal internship, I wanted a firm that was willing to teach me how to be successful in law school as well as help me gain different insights and perspectives in the field of law that I can utilize in my career. I chose Nottingham, Gordon, Engel, and Kerr, a firm involved in a broad range of matters, specializing in personal injury, matrimonial, estate planning and equine law. Under the supervision of Richard L. Engel, I became involved in these matters and exposed to the various operations of the firm. My days were an interesting mix of observing Mr. Engel advise his clients on legal matters, taking part in evaluating and drafting legal documents including affidavits and depositions, and dealing with client issues as they arose. Direct practice in these legal matters enabled me to improve my skills of communicating, analyzing, researching, and critical thinking, all crucial skills for the practicing lawyer.
