Demographics and the Recording Industry

Cornelia Sewell Have you ever wondered what the real recording industry is all about? Or who affects the industry? These questions can have many different answers, but one of the leading factors is demographics. Demography can be defined as the statistical study of human populations and especially their size and distribution and the number of births and deaths.

This paper is the analysis of how the recording industry may fail or succeed in different demographic areas. The primary basis of analysis is based on my internship experiences that will continue throughout the course of the summer. This highlights and tries to compare the difference in success rates between independent (Spinn City) and corporate (Universal) businesses in the Recording Industry. Through intensive training, observation, and mentoring in the independent environment in Syracuse and corporate in New York City it became apparent what the true answer to success was. Location and money were the keys that aided or disabled the business' success. These results show that once location and funds are taken into serious consideration, it will eventually determine the failure or success of a business.
