Making People Smile: Internship at the VA Medical Center Dental Clinic
I participated in a six-week internship at the VA Medical Center Dental Clinic, observing the work of a dental laboratory. One of the key functions of such a laboratory is the creation of dental prostheses, including bridges, crowns, and dentures. Dentures are an artistic creation in acrylic resin, plastic, and metal, helping those who have lost their teeth due to accident or disease to maintain a smile, eat, swallow and speak normally. Under the supervision of a dental laboratory technician, I created a complete set of dentures. My hands-on experience will be an invaluable asset as I build my career, and only increases my motivation to pursue my vision of helping people smile.
